Swarovski Salone del Mobile

Crystal glasses? Figurines... jewellery? Passé. The future of crystal, according to Atelier Swarovski, the industry ruler themselves, is design. At Salone del Mobile in Milan, the international furniture fair to which the entire design world flocks every April, Swarovski showcased their latest crystal innovations ranging from a table made from a fountain of crystal, a chess set that far more resembles a collection of tiny stunning  sculptures on a reflected surface, to a reinvented avant-garde chandelier.

What is design without materials? And can you think of a more fascinating material than crystal? Its impossibly complex, intricate molecular structure, it's ability to filter light into a rainbow spectrum, its magical properties worshipped for thousands of years.... just think about the movie Ex Machina, what were the brains of the emotion possessing robots constructed from? That's right, crystal.
