Starway To Heaven, Bio House by Architect Jean-Paul Lubliner
Ahead of this year’s much anticipated Ecobuild, the world’s biggest and most hyped event for sustainable design, the built environment… as well as a major source of inspiration and innovation (Future Materials Gallery, Evolution of Light, Green Deal Terrace), Creative Mapping took a tour of Starway to Heaven, a surreal bio beauty which is nothing less than the green-minded work of a forward-thinking genius – Jean-Paul Lubliner.
Starway to Heaven – breathtaking panoramic view over the French capital on every floor, direct views onto Sacré Coeur – and a staggering 360° panorama of all of Paris from the roof terrace.
Paris is a city known for its big history but small living spaces… so when innovator and architect Jean Paul Lubliner showed Creative Mapping around his unique home in a tiny street in the heart of picturesque Montmartre, near Sacré Coeur we were – needless to say – blown away. His home is called ‘Starway to Heaven’ – a superbly and holistically designed 250 three storey loft with breathtaking panoramic view over the French capital on every floor, direct views onto Sacré Coeur – and a staggering 360° panorama of all of Paris from the roof terrace.
But a Bio House? In Paris?
Lubliner’s motive and intention for building Starway to Heaven was to bring together the harmonious existence of mankind and nature- then Lubliner added his own rock and roll twist; with a surrealistic and edgy feel in the design, from Jagger-like lips aquarium adorning the wall (by artist Tony Selgi), to an erotic breast sculpture in the bathroom…. Led Zeppelin eat your heart out!
Lubliner’s research into bio-communication in living spaces took two years, and the physical renovation a staggering three years. But the results speak for themselves – the whole house is equipped with the latest energy-saving technologies, air-purification by sensors, vegetal walls, photovoltaic cells, a rainwater harvesting system and wall gardens (specially selected plants absorb toxins such as synthetic deodorants, tobacco, chemical products, etc… and purify indoor air). A Canadian well in the basement regulates the apartment’s temperature through geothermal energy.
One of Starway to Heaven’s most outstanding designs (of so many) is The Stairway of Time – the building’s 3 floors and roof terrace are connected by this monumental stairway which is connected to a computer and shows the time – clever right? Well its skills also extend to lighting up at the same time as the Eiffel tower for the most complete quirky Parisian experience. The glass steps are powered by solar energy and create stunning variations of atmosphere and light… it’s the main element around which all the living spaces are layed out. Impressed yet? There’s more – climbing this spiral masterpiece (the number of its stairs matching the number of the hours in a day)….
