Kite and Laslett, Installation Artists, Designers of Sound and Light

This innovative design duo works with light and sound, film, installation and performance - Sebastian Kite and Will Laslett, are the brains and builders behind 'Kite and Laslett'.

They recently worked with British Designer Faye Toogood, of Studio Toogood, designing a space at Milan Furniture Fair 2012 called 'La Cura'. The aim of the space is to provide a visual remedy for visitors, caught in the chaos of the Salone del Mobile. Kite & Laslett's therapeutic sound and light composition aided the purpose of 'La Cura', described as a hospital for the senses providing rebalance for its visitors.
Sebastian tells us about the creative process and development of 'La Cura'. He also shares insight into how the duo's background in architecture and music has influenced their current practice of creating intelligent and sensitive immersive environments.
Creative Mapping caught up with the duo, talking about creative processes and art.

"We want to create a secondary pulse within the space, so people feel like they're entering a clock with a different speed." Kite and Laslett

CM: Where are you from?

Will originates from Bath, Sebastian from Crystal Palace, London. Together we have established our studio live/workshop space in East London.

CM: What and where did you study?
We met whilst studying our diploma in architecture at the Westminster School of Architecture, building our first installation during the first term's design project.‚ Previously, Will studied architecture at Sheffield University and myself at the Glasgow School of Art, practicing‚ in Berlin.

CM: What does Kite & Laslett do?
We are a practice of installation artists at heart. We are trained as architects, and we also have influences in music and set design. We're very interested in the crossover between different creative disciplines, and engaging with spaces directly and creating immersive environments that take you out of the norm.
