Citizen Time Milan Design Week
You think of time as linear, right? Citizen shattered this concept by executing an installation of time–in its metaphysical design representation–burst into thousands of pieces of fragmented light.
It was like walking into Yayoi Kusama's Fireflies on Water installation crossed with Swarovski crystals and Zaha Hadid's minimal aesthetics.
It was celestial... timeless yet futuristic... and utterly surreal.
The fragmented crystal installation-evoked an explosion suspended in time–and surrounded a circular, self referencing space, home to nothing but a clock-like sculpture, and a repetition of 12 smaller versions spaced like the numbers on a clock.
Citizen explored the very notion of "time" from far more than just a design perspective... but how everything–the universe, earth, living creatures, mankind, life and society–are all linked to time.
And then there is the relationship between time and light, so beautifully incorporated into the Citizen Time, and which aimed to reflect Citizen's eco light-powered analogue watches, using light as a source of power in this Eco-Drive technology.
Time is just the beginning of Milan Design's epic program... our top picks, highlights, the strange, the beautiful and the unexpected will all be revealed in our upcoming review so that even if you couldn't make it to Milan this time, you can still experience the must-sees of the design year ahead. We'll be announcing the review here soon... very soon.
