Cannes Film Festival: AFPF Garden Party
After a five hour train ride spent prepping interviews we headed straight to the Palais to pick up our accreditations. It’s an absolute mad-house in the streets and there isn’t even a red carpet happening… It’s a sunday, and the groupies are are passing their weekend on safari for a celebrity sighting and it’s creating a cattle-hoarding effect and drawing in the pick pockets. Don’t be fooled by the money, guard your bags.
AFPF Garden Party– We were invited to the Association Francaise des Producteurs de Films by the President, Stéphane Guénin at the Villa Caravelle in the hills above the Palais and action of the festival. It was both an intimate and large affair with champagne and exotic bites and a lot of networking. In the VIP press lounge on the balcony they had a 4D virtual reality stimulator that was the future incarnate. We put on the headset and were thrown inside a movie theatre simulator. Wherever you looked, even behind you, was the simulation of a theatre. And then the movie began, and the character on the screen, suddenly turned to look directly at us, pointed a gun, and with the shot, we were suddenly thrown into the film and found ourselves sitting on the rooftop of a hotel in bright sunlight overlooking Cannes, amidst dead bodies in what must have been a mafia crime scene situation. Another gun was shot at us within the chaos and BANG, we were back in reality. It was insane. What a way to start off the week.
